Rescue Adoption and Fundraiser Event
Saturday, February 20, 2016 Bass Pro Shops Back Parking Lot
10:00 AM to 3:00 PM
Senior Spaniel Rescue, Inc. (SSRI) is excited to announce the Fifth Annual Find Your Furry Valentine event, Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Bass Pro Shops back parking lot. Find Your Furry Valentine provides an incredible and much needed opportunity for local rescue organizations to work together to raise awareness, funds and ultimately homes for needy animals in our Las Vegas community. In 2015 approximately 35 animals found new homes.
"Find Your Furry Valentine is a great community event for the entire family while providing an opportunity to raise critical funds for local rescues. If you are looking for a new furry family member, Find Your Furry Valentine allows prospective adopters to meet available pets in our community and begin the placement process. And if your four legged family is complete, the event features pet focused products and services" said Mary Sanders, President of the Senior Spaniel Rescue.
All event funds stay in the community and aid in sustaining the medical needs of Las Vegas fostered animals, while increasing awareness of the need to adopt homeless dogs, cats, pigs and donkeys during the brutal winter months when adoption rates and fundraising is lower.
The event will again be held in the Bass Pro Shops back parking lot, adjacent to the Silverton Hotel and Casino, and will feature pet friendly booths, crafts, raffles and prizes. The event will also feature animal demonstrations and live local entertainment. Local food trucks will also be on hand for lunch and snacks.
Senior Spaniel Rescue, Inc. will manage the event including marketing to rescues and vendors, placement of rescues and vendors, communication to rescues and vendors about insurance requirements and reservation confirmation, acceptance of applications, insurance documents and funds and the onsite coordination at the event.
In winter months, there are few other major Las Vegas animal events for rescues to raise funds and promote their animals for adoption. With so many animals coming from foreclosures and financially struggling owners and desert abandonment, the Las Vegas rescuers are overwhelmed with saving animals and paying for their medical needs.
Senior Spaniel Rescue, Inc.'s (SSRI) mission is to help older (ages 7 and up) English Springer Spaniels find foster and forever homes who will love and care for them. When life altering events happen and owners can no longer care for their Springers and must give them up for adoption, SSRI provides adoption referral assistance. SSRI provides medical care for those in foster care (on average about $600 per dog) and hospice care for those who can’t be healed. SSRI organized the Las Vegas Cocker Rescue and provided funds, emotional support and mentorship to them and other rescues.
Senior Spaniel Rescue, Inc., a 501 (c) 3 non-profit corporation, was formed in 2007 by a group of local Springer lovers to help neglected, abused, abandoned, and discarded older Springer Spaniels find new homes and a second chance at a good life. It is an all-volunteer organization fully sponsored and supported through donations, various fundraising events and local veterinary donations of time and services.
In the past, SSRI has focused on Springers in Nevada and Arizona and has assisted the national rescue organization, English Springer Rescue America, by taking overflow Springers from other states including Utah, New Mexico and California. In the fall of 2015 SSRI formally expanded its rescue locations to New Mexico and southern and central California. It also established lead volunteers in these states and in Arizona. These actions will provide the dedicated support and help that is needed in these areas.
SSRI ‘s motto can be summed up as “Every Life Counts. Leave no Springer Behind.”
